New Jerusalem Progressive was founded in Mansfield, OH by a group of faithful individuals who envisioned a place where people could connect, grow, and find hope. Over the years, our congregation has grown to two locations, but our mission remains the same: to share God’s grace and make a positive impact in the lives of those around us.
Meet Our Pastor
Pastor Kartra J. Johnson is the Senior Pastor of New Jerusalem Progressive Church of God in Christ, a devoted shepherd with an unrelenting passion for spreading Christ’s love and proclaiming the gospel. His mission is to lead people toward spiritual growth and to help them discover their God-given purpose. For over two decades, Pastor Johnson served the late Supt. David E. Dennis until his transition in February of 2015. In April of that same year, he was appointed as Pastor (second in succession) by the late Bishop Floyd E. Perry.
Throughout his ministry, Pastor Johnson has demonstrated unwavering dedication, serving in numerous capacities within the local church, including but not limited to the Minister of Music, Pastoral Appreciation Ministry, Young Adult Sunday School Teacher, Trustee Board Member, and Chairman of the Men’s Ministry. His commitment and leadership were further recognized in 2018 when he was appointed Chairman of the First Mansfield District under Superintendent Henry J. Bradley. In 2021, Bishop David L. Herron- Prelate of Ohio Central East Jurisdiction, elevated him to Administrative Assistant, acknowledging his continued service and impact. He also serves as a member of MIMA (Mansfield Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance), Chairman of PLCM (Progressive Life Changing Ministries), and board member of “Elevate Northland”.
Pastor Johnson serves with a heart full of love for God and His people. He is mission-minded and driven by the belief that “you’re not living unless you’re giving.” Known for his commanding, spirit-filled teaching and knowledge, Pastor Johnson strives to make the word of God relatable, applicable, and measurable for all ages. His leadership is marked by unwavering dedication, genuine care for people, and an indescribable resolve to see lives transformed by the power of God’s truth.
Pastor Johnson has a heartbeat for souls. He strives to create an atmosphere of love, grace, and warmth where “ALL” feel welcome to come as they are and experience the life-changing power of the unadulterated Word of God. His greatest joy is leading others to Christ and seeing their lives purposefully transformed.
Beyond the pulpit, Pastor Johnson is a loving family man. He finds great joy spending time with his bride, Lady Nicole Johnson, their six gifted children, and six beautiful grandchildren.
